Echoes of the Earth

Echoes of the Earth is at OMM.

Echoes of the Earth, which questions how narratives produced by humanity have changed form throughout history to reach the present day, makes visible the transformation of these narratives, which images and stories have been carried forward, which have been left behind, and which have been reconstructed with each encounter. With ETİ as its main supporter, the exhibition is curated by Defne Casaretto and brings together more than 70 works by artists from different generations, realized through various techniques including painting, photography, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and video installation.

From the traces we left on cave walls to oral narratives, myths, and written texts, we have developed different ways of transmitting our experiences and created narratives throughout the ages. Reinterpreted, diminished, expanded, and imbued with different meanings in each generation, these narratives not only carried knowledge but also made visible the ways in which we perceive and make sense of the world. Stories were reinterpreted, transformed, and continued to live across borders. As a narrative moved away from the geography and time in which it was born, it encountered new communities and acquired new meanings.

Bringing together figures, images, symbols, and narratives from different times and lands along the axes of nature, history, and mythology through a non-linear arrangement, Echoes of the Earth moves the narrative beyond a static heritage and transforms it into a living structure that is continuously reshaped within space.

When a story reaches us, is it still the same story?
