Calligraphic Wig

Created by Berlin-based Romanian artist Daniel Knorr, the installation transforms the forms that emerge from the production and transformation processes of plastic into a poetic artistic language, confronting viewers with the material’s potential.

Born from Knorr’s time spent in plastic recycling factories in Hong Kong, “Calligraphic Wig” elevates the accidental forms produced when machines malfunction into the subjects of art. These spontaneous plastic structures resemble the letters of an unknown alphabet, deep-sea creatures, or organic formations from other planets.

First exhibited at Chungking Mansions, the work draws inspiration from Hong Kong’s cultural diversity and urban aesthetics. Some of the pieces are coated with automotive paint colors dating back to the 1970s, bridging the gap between industrial production and artistic expression. Others are left in their natural state, revealing the raw energy, randomness, and transformative power of the material.
