"Creatures of Comfort" at OMM - Odunpazarı Modern Museum brings together contemporary artworks and whimsical designs. Curated by Idil Tabanca, this exhibition features international artists and designers whose creations transcend traditional boundaries in painting, sculpture, installation, and furniture design, redefining the relationship between form and function.
In an era where modern humans spend more than three-quarters of their lives indoors, nature feels more distant than ever. "Creatures of Comfort" explores works that create space for nature to re-enter our urban lives. The artists incorporate elements of nature and human characteristics into their creations, bringing soul to functional objects.
The exhibition addresses a collective longing for simpler times in the face of technological damage, overpopulation, climate change, and pandemics. This postmodern yearning for nature and the intricate creatures within it forms the central theme of the show. Despite the dominant influence of Bauhaus and its derivatives on modern furniture, "Creatures of Comfort" presents unusual and playful designs enriched with natural elements.
